Last week I walked into a well known high street bank to deposit a cheque. I'd dutifully filled in the paying-in slip ahead of time so I could use the self-service machine as I knew this would both be convenient and quick. I followed the instructions on screen and received an error message "You have not used a paying in slip". I approached a member of staff who advised me that "I'd used the wrong paying in slip. The one I used was for over the counter only. I needed to complete a different slip." I asked the staff member a couple of questions:
